This is an OPS (Other Personal Services) positions and as such no paid time off is offered. Health benefits will be offered for full-time employment. OPS employees are eligible to participate in a deferred compensation plan.

DESCRIPTION:

This is an OPS COVID Vaccine Licensed Practical Nurse position that will administer vaccinations and perform other tasks to support the Florida Department of Health with vaccination efforts in DeSoto County.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid driver license and reliable transportation

  • Certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse

  • High school diploma or its equivalent is preferred

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours to include after normal working hours and on weekends

  • Flexible to learn and work in various roles

  • Flexible to work at different sites and scheduled shifts

  • Ability to work in high volume fast-paced site

  • Ability to lift 25-50 lbs.

  • Ability to frequently bend, kneel, reach, sit or stand for long periods of time as necessary

  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions including extreme heat, rain, high humidity and other adverse conditions

  • Knowledge of public health nursing principles, practices and techniques

  • Participation in the direct deposit program within 30 days of employment as mandated per Florida Statute 110.113, 96-310, Laws of Florida

  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Assist with setup and breakdown of site

  • Able to administer vaccinations to adults

  • Accurately complete “Immunization Clinic Record/Signature Card” and all other documentation required per Health Department policy and procedures for vaccines administered

  • Perform data entry if needed

  • Greet and direct clients

  • Complete client vaccine cards

  • Assist with crowd and traffic control

  • Perform client temperature checks

  • Ensure clients are maintaining a safe distance and wearing masks

  • Verify clients’ identity and residency

  • Conduct screening questions and document answers

  • Answer client questions and assist in resolving any client concerns

  • Monitor and maintain vaccine count / vaccine custodian duties as fit

  • Monitor queues and ensure efficient client flow

  • Monitor clients for adverse reactions to vaccine

  • Attend to clients promptly and professionally, maintain good customer service at all times

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES ESSENTIAL TO THIS ROLE:

  • Ability to plan, organize and complete work assignments.

  • Ensure personal hygiene is maintained to a high level and correct PPE is always worn

  • Understanding of Regulatory Requirements

  • Knowledge of public health nursing principles, practices and techniques

  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology

  • Ability to provide direct patient care and treatment

  • Ability to administer medications

  • Good interviewing skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality (protected health information)

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Windows-based business software applications including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel

  • Access to reliable transportation

  • Ability to communicate effectively

  • Experience in customer service

  • Carry out instructions provided in a written, oral or diagram form
