The Director of Nursing Implementation and Research Scientist is a doctorally prepared nurse scientist that directs the development and coordination of Wellstar’s nursing research program. The Director coordinates, manages and provides subject matter expertise in the development, design, and implementation of nursing research projects across Wellstar. The Director manages multiple research projects and teams and makes the challenge of research a reality for clinical nurses. The Director provides leadership in provision of training and consultation to support individual or teams in research projects/findings that promote and advance translation of evidence to practice.
The Director enhances translation of evidence to practice for quality patient care and contributes to the professional development of staff. This individual provides guidance for the development of nursing and inter-professional research studies. This individual will be accountable for overseeing execution of research deliverables and will lead the research team to achieve research goals and objectives. His/her approach focuses on systematic adoption and integration of evidence-based interventions to improve quality.
Further, this position will require strong relationship skills, as well as teaching, mentoring and leadership skills. The Director will work collaboratively and build partnerships with Graduate Medical Education (GME) Programs, Quality Leaders, Enterprise Intelligence and Learning Teams, and Service Line Leaders and Physician Chiefs. This position will advance Nursing and Interprofessional research across the System to align to Wellstar’s Mission/Vision/Values and promote optimal staff and clinical outcomes. This position scope of responsibility is System and will require travel.
Required Minimum Education:
Required Minimum Licensure/Certification:
RN must hold current/active license as a registered nurse in the State of Georgia or hold a privilege to practice in the State of Georgia under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). Current Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative Program (CITI) Certificate. Certification in research is preferred.
Required Minimum Experience/Scope: Minimum of 7 years of research experience required, with at least 5 years of these being responsible for leading clinical research teams with a proven record of successful research study completion and dissemination of findings.
Required Minimum Skills:
Expert in the conduct of research methods, proposal development, data analysis, publication, and presentation of findings. Strong analytical thinker able to utilize data to identify practice issues and synthesize evidence to address the practice issue. Ability to identify key elements and define detailed protocol / project work and incorporate them into study plan. Delivery focused and able to work through the challenges of conducting multi-site research studies or strategic projects. Ability to lead diverse research teams and strong knowledge of research regulations and Institutional Review Boards. Team oriented with ability to form high performing teams from sets of diverse team
members. Strong communication skills and tools with demonstrated ability to concisely communicate with leaders. Key to establishing goals, milestones, and priorities, ensuring team members understand work assignments and in communicating project status, risks, and issues to senior leadership. Able to interact on a scientific level with organization, nurse, physician, and external community groups or funders. Demonstrated effective organizational and time management skills, professional communications, and conflict resolution skills. Must have working knowledge of business operations, including database management and related software programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; statistical software preferred i.e., SPSS/SAS/JMP and qualitative software MAXQDA/NVivo).
