Nursing Apprentice - (Intermittent/PRN) 6A Med/Surg (Job ID: 5629)Job SummaryUnder the supervision of an RN, performs basic patient care activities. TheNursing Apprentice II role provides an opportunity for students that havegraduated from a nursing program to enhance clinical skills in a hospitalenvironment when applying for licensure/registration to the NursingRegulatory Body to take the NCLEX Examination. The Nursing Apprentice IIadheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professionalnursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics (2015) to providecare to all patients. Utilizes the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas in dailypractice. "Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Founder /Director, Watson Caring Science Institute".This role is eligible for shift differential when the majority of the hoursworked fall in a night, weekend or evening shift.This role is eligible for the followings benefits:Medical InsuranceDental InsuranceVision InsuranceShort Term DisabilityLong Term DisabilityPaid Time Off401(a) Retirement Plan with Employer ContributionsAdoption Assistant ProgramTuition ReimbursementRTD ECO PassResponsibilities1.The Nursing Apprentice II works at least one 12- hour shift per week or 24hours per pay period consistently until verification of RN licensure.2.Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by anRN, including but not limited to, monitoring vitalsigns, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.3.Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of dailyliving, including but not limited to, bathing, grooming and eating.4.Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotionalconditions to nursing staff.5.Assists with keeping unit(s) and patient rooms stocked, clean, and orderly.6.Develop specific clinical nurse skills through observation of experts andsupervised, hands-on experience.7.Documentation that complies with clinical guidelines.8.Partners with interprofessional team on healthcare consumer throughput byproactively solving problems related to capacity and healthcare consumer flow.9.Collaborates with interprofessional teams to incorporate Lean principles forquality improvement initiatives.10.Other skillsa.Approved skills with validation of competency detailed in Appendix Ab.Restricted skills and limitations of practice detailed in Appendix AAPPENDIX ANursing Apprentice approved tasks/skills allowed with returned demonstrationand documentation on the standardized Nursing Apprentice Competency Tool.*Glucometer*recording intake and output*Telemetry led placement and removal*Placement of oxygen devices (excluding oxygen titration)*Assessments, interventions and reassessment documentation with an RNco-signature*Wound care and wound care documentation with an RN co-signature*Place and removal of peripheral IVs*Perform phlebotomy*Place and remove urinary drainage catheters*Perform central line dressing changesThe Nursing Apprentice restricted skills and limitations*Patient Admission and/or discharges*Medication administration*Patient education*Blood administration*Obtaining consent, or signing consent forms*Acknowledging orders*Verify settings or work with PCAs, epidural pumps or other intravenous drips*Delegate tasks independently to facility personnel*Perform any task that requires certification or advanced instruction.Examples of this are ACLS or PALS interventions*Work the same schedule as the Registered Nurse Preceptor*Develop specific clinical nurse skills through observation of experts andsupervised, hands-on experience.*Assists the patient with daily hygiene, mobility and altered needs.*Cosigned documentation that complies with clinical guidelines excluding careplans.*Collaborates with the healthcare consumer, family, and others in theconduct of professional nursing practice.*Consistently partners with interprofessional team on healthcare consumerthroughput by proactively solving problems related to capacity a
