h3Position Summary/h3 The neonatal nurse practitioner functions as a primary care provider to patients assigned to the Michigan State University Neonatologist at Sparrow Hospital Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (RNICU). The successful candidate will be expected to: ol style="list-style-type: upper-alpha" liAssess, plan, and evaluate medical care in collaboration with the MSU neonatologists./li liReport accurately and concisely in patient care rounds and problem-oriented documentation./li liCollaborate with health care team in planning and coordinating care for the patients and their family through care conferences./li liOrder diagnostic studies and therapeutic measures in collaboration with the responsible physician./li liOrder medications utilizing approved RNICU goals, guidelines, and protocols (including blood and blood protocols)./li liAttend high-risk deliveries./li liResuscitate and stabilize patients./li liDetermine need for and perform core specialized diagnostic, therapeutic, and other procedures, including but not limited to: ol style="list-style-type: lower-alpha" liInitiate and manage cardiopulmonary resuscitation./li liEndotracheal intubation./li liInitiation and management of ventilatory support./li liLumbar puncture./li liVenipuncture./li liPercutaneous, radial, posterior tibial, and dorsalis pedis arterial cannulation./li liArterial puncture./li liUrethral catheterization of the bladder./li liSuprapubic aspiration./li liThoracentesis./li liPeripheral intravenous catheter insertion./li liUmbilical venous catheterization./li liUmbilical artery catheterization./li liPercutaneous central venous catheterization./li /ol /li liPerform the following procedures after consultation with a neonatologist (unless during a life-threatening situation): ol style="list-style-type: lower-alpha" liExchange transfusion./li liInitiation of oscillator ventilator support./li liPericardiocentesis./li liThoracotomy for chest tube insertion./li /ol /li liProvide direction to Neonatal Transport Nurses on transport or participate on transports when appropriate./li liProvide consultation to Newborn Nursery and Perinatal areas./li liProvide leadership by: ol style="list-style-type: lower-alpha" liAssist in clinical supervision and teaching of residents, advanced practice nursing students, and PA students./li liParticipate in performance evaluations./li liFormulate long and short-term goals based on self-assessment of strengths and weaknesses./li liParticipate as appropriate in the formulation, revision, and implementation of policies and procedures in the RNICU./li liParticipate in performance improvement/li liAssist in maintaining a climate conducive to open communication./li liAct as a role model and resource for peers, residents, and nursing staff./li liMaintain a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, the Corporate Compliance Plan, Code of Ethics, and other policies and procedures to ensure adherence in a manner reflecting honest, ethical, and professional behavior./li liServe as a role model representative of Michigan State University by demonstrating adherence to customer service standards and by respecting the privacy and confidentiality of our patients./li liDemonstrate knowledge of and respect patient, service provider, and organizational confidentiality procedures and protocols defined under the HIPAA Privacy Policies./li liFollow established HIPAA pri
