The CNA provides direct care to assigned residents under the supervision of a RN or LPN. Performs simple treatments and other tasks that do not require professional training or education; maintains compliance with established facility policies and procedure

Summary: The CNA Student is a temporary training position consisting of two phases. The first phase is classroom learning taught in person or online by a certified instructor. The second phase consist of clinical hands on training.

CLASSROOM TRAINING PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Attend classes as schedule by the instructor

  2. Demonstrate skills learned in the classroom

  3. Maintain minimum passing grade on all assignments and exams

  4. Study in preparation for the State Board written and skills exams

CLINICAL TRAINING PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Utilizes appropriate resources to know the care needs of assigned residents

  2. Administers showers, bed baths, or tub baths according to expressed wishes and plan of care

  3. Provides oral hygiene including denture care

  4. Cares for hearing aids safely

  5. Takes oral, rectal, and axillary temperatures

  6. Answers call lights

  7. Changes bed linens

  8. Toilets residents before and after meals and prn, or according to their individualized plan

  9. Passes snacks and ice water

  10. Assists residents for meals

  11. Feeds residents who require assistance

  12. Assists residents in range of motion, mobility and ambulation

  13. Assists residents in use of walker, cane, or other mobility devices

  14. Shaves residents (male and female)

  15. Transports residents to scheduled activities

  16. Empties drainage bags in timely manner

  17. Accurately completes all required forms: intake and output, food intake, flow sheet, accident/incident report, resident clothing sheet, CNA flow sheet

  18. Attends to resident hygiene needs: provides nail care, administer perineal care, cleans glasses, checks residents hourly for dryness

  19. Notifies nurse of any change in resident’s condition

  20. Follows facility policies

  21. Adheres to Bowel and Bladder Training Program

  22. Notifies supervisor when unsure of how to prioritize assignment or need for assistance

  23. Maintains professional behavior and appearance, promotes and exhibits good customer service and a safe, nurturing environment

  24. Other duties as assigned
