Assists with providing nursing care for students who are sick and/or injured, prevention of illness and promotion of good health within limits of state licensure and in compliance with government, corporate, and management directives.

Essential Duties Job Functions:

  • Assist RN and/or health care provider in treatment of student walk-ins, first aid treatment and urgent health concerns(s).

  • Provide care to students following care plan per RN or health care provider.

  • Assist physician or nurse practitioner with examinations and scheduling.

  • Track labs. Testing to ensure continuation of care and for billing purposes.

  • Track immunizations for compliance with federal and state law, and job corps requirements.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student medical records.

  • Follow-up on minor and major illness by phone interview and/or appointment with physician.

  • Schedule and track follow-up appointments and referrals off center.

  • Administers prescription medications as ordered by the doctor.

  • Teach student about all aspects of illness or condition.

  • Relate health and wellness to students by one-on-one teaching and by setting a positive example.

  • Maintain prescription inventory, follow-up with supply orders and screen for expiration dates.

  • Maintain a supply of common non-prescription medications and issue to instructors, residential and recreation staff.

  • Maintain a working relationship with community partners.

  • Serve on committees as appointed.

  • Cultivate and maintain a climate on Center that is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.

  • Promote student attainment of career success standards through modeling appropriate skills, mentoring students, monitoring skill acquisition and intervening when inappropriate behavior is observed.

  • Perform all other duties as requested.

Accountable For:

  • Completing all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.

  • Timely and cost-effective performance of duties.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to students, management and line staff, corporate and DOL personnel and public groups.

  • Ability to develop rapport and positive working relationships with all departments.

  • Timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work.

  • Dealing with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.

  • Adherence to established company safety policies and ability to work in a safe manner, using any required personal protective equipment (PPE) as may be required.

  • Compliance with company standard operating procedures and personnel policies and procedures.

Mandatory:

  • Must be a licensed nurse in the state of Mississippi.

  • One (1) year related experience.

  • Valid driver’s license, with an acceptable driving record.

  • Successfully pass background check and drug test.
