Covenant Health NURSE MANAGER in Nashua, New Hampshire
The Infusion Suite is a Hospital outpatient center which cares primarily for adult patients who require hematology or oncology services. The Nurse Manager, Oncology has local responsibility for the Infusion Center, and works collaboratively with the Director of the Hematology/Oncology physician practice and the Breast Care Center. Treatments provided at the Infusion Center include but are not limited to: Therapeutic phlebotomies, chemotherapy infusions, antibiotic/hydration infusions, transfusion of blood products, maintenance care of central lines and administration of intramuscular medications. The Nurse Manager, Oncology coordinates the daily activities of Infusion Services and works in conjunction with the Director of Outpatient Specialty Services and the Director of Pharmacy to maximize patient care outcomes, manage fiscal responsibilities, and oversee and facilitate smooth efficient operation of the departments to meet patient and physician needs.
Specialty Area Requirement
Oncology Prepared Nurses under general supervision, deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, in accordance with ONS guidelines and core competencies. Nurses collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Nurses effectively interact with patient and their significant others, while maintaining the standard of professional nursing. Oncology Prepared Nurses provide care and support to patients diagnosed with cancer and their families.
Oncology Prepared Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the guidance of ONS guidelines and core competencies. In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of Oncology Prepared Nurses include (but are not limited to):
Consult/ coordinates with team members to assess and evaluate patient care plans.
Conducts pre- and chemotherapy administration education for patient and family if present.
Acquires and maintains the skills required to:
Calculate medication dosing/basic pharmacology
Engage in therapeutic relationships
Set priorities and reprioritize
Work autonomously and collaboratively
Practice with basic computer skills
Provide effective adherence to infection control practices
Maintain Interpersonal skills
Continue to build upon learned critical thinking skills
Develop and maintain a strong application of the nursing process and the basic principles of cancer and its treatment
Provide strong verbal and written communication skills
Prepares and administers all medications ordered and documents according to hospital policy.
Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse.
Responds to codes based upon nursing scope and protocol.
Records all care information accurately and completely in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
Education-Graduate from an approved School of Nursing -Current New Hampshire license required or eligible to obtain
BLS required through American Heart Association
Experience-Clinical experience preferred
Professional Activities:-Membership in a professional nursing organization -Certification in specialty preferred.
