Position Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) on the Adult Medical Surgical unit protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, and the alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response and through advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN is responsible and accountable for compliance to all standards of practice and professional development in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, United Health Services and Nursing Division policies, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Bill of Patient Rights. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.
Position Requirements
Education/Experience
Minimum Required:
A graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
Unit Specific Requirement:
ICU: CCC or EKG Interpretation Certification and ACLS; PALS; at least 1 year general Med/Surg experience preferred; ICU/CCU experience preferable
MED/SURG: PALS, ACLS preferred
ESD: CCC or EKG Interpretation Certification and ACLS; TNCC and PALS or ENPC within 6 months of hire with re-certification per course requirements; at least 1 year clinical experience required, ESD experience preferable
NFC: Neonatal Resuscitation before completion of orientation with biennial re-certification; Fetal Heart Monitoring within 6 months of hire and annual review; PALS; Med/Surg or OB Experience preferable
AMB: At least 1 year clinical nursing experience, PALS ACLS; Ambulatory Sugery experience preferable
AMB/PACU: CCC or EKG Interpretation and ACLS; at least 1 year general Med/Surg experience; ICU/CCU experience preferable.
OR: ACLS; PALS at least 1 year general Med/Surg experience preferred, OR experience preferable.
Surgical Services: ACLS; PALS at least 1 year general Med/Surg experience preferred, ICU/CCU/OR experience preferable.
Float: ACLS, CCC or EKG interpretation; PALS, 1 year general Med-Surg/ ER/NFC/ OR/ICU, neonatal resuscitation and fetal monitoring certifications preferred, ICU experience preferable.
Preferred:
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing
Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting
License/Certification
Minimum Required:
Current New York State Registered Nurse License
CPR within 3 months of hire
ACLS
Preferred:
Professional certification in a related nursing specialty
PALS
