Position Description :

The Urology Service at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania- New Patient Pavilion- has an exciting opportunity for an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join their team of board certified surgeons and Advanced Practice Providers.

The Urology team at HUP is part of the Department of Surgery and provides care to patients undergoing elective surgery for disorders including but not exclusive to prostate, bladder, ureter, kidney and testes. The surgical portion of this service includes but is not limited to complex urinary diversions and surgical procedures for various types of malignancies in the prostate, bladder, ureter, kidney and testes.

Responsibilities for the NP/PA who joins our team will include inpatient management, consulting on urological disorders for other departments, clinical decision making, procedures according to credentialing, complex discharge planning and transitions in care, care coordination, team collaboration, and education of patients, family and staff. In this role, the APP will collaborate with our team of world class surgeons, learn from the most knowledgeable multidisciplinary experts, and work alongside dedicated residents and nurses.

The NP/PA, will provide quality care across the continuum in collaboration with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, nursing staff, and other members of the care team, and be expected to manage patient care autonomously within the scope of their professional practice. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the role also involves participation in the Department’s Quality Improvement initiatives and Unit-Based Clinical Leadership (UBCL). Opportunities for professional growth and development are available through research, lecturing, publications, and involvement with departmental and hospital projects and committees.

In addition, the provider will participate in research as applicable, ensure regulatory compliance, document care according to standards, and prescribe in accordance with their collaborative agreement and State regulations.

All Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants function under the guidelines designed by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center medical staff guidelines and are credentialed through that body. The PA or CRNP hired will be held accountable through a formal job description, the delineation of privileges, and their agreement with their collaborating/supervising physician who has initiated a Collaborative Practice Agreement.

Minimum Requirements :

Masters degree. Active PA licensure at time of hire. ACLS required.
