Temple University Nurse Practitioner FT 10 MONTH in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 21000115DescriptionThe Nurse Practitioner in the Lewis Katz School of Medicine's Student and Employee Health department will be working under the supervision of a collaborating physician providing primary care to students by assessing and managing routine acute/chronic problems and performing routine health prevention care, while consulting with the appropriate medical staff when further consultation is warranted.Responsibilities include: obtaining health history and performing physical examinations, recommending appropriate treatments, prescribing under physician supervision unless has independent prescriptive license, and assisting in the development of nursing and nurse practitioner protocols. consulting with staff physicians in cases of abnormal findings or when further consultation is warranted. In addition, the Nurse Practitioner provides gynecologic care to female students, PrEP, coordinates follow-up for patients seen, documents clearly and appropriately using EMR, performs phlebotomy; utilizes laboratory and dispensary services appropriately; participates in staff meeting, quality improvement projects and committees and promotes health education and illness prevention initiatives throughout the university; participates in the maintenance of an appropriate formulary and medical supplies by making recommendations to the physician chair of Dispensary and Therapeutics Committee; care is rendered primarily at the Main campus of Temple University and visits are performed in person and via telemedicine. Performs other duties as assigned.Required Education and Experience:Certification as a Certified Nurse Practitioner by the Pennsylvania Board of Medical Education and Licensure.Required Skills and Abilities:*Must maintain continuing education requirements for licensure, and remain up-to-date in area of practice.*Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems within established policies, and use independent judgment.*Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and doctors.*Must have the ability to travel to other campuses to render care as needed.*Demonstrated ability to use all standard office equipment, and software including MS Office.*Demonstrated ability to use the following equipment: stethoscope, otoscope, ophthalmoscope, blood pressure cuffs, pelvic exam instruments, culture swabs, syringes, needles, test tubes, vacutainers, butterfly syringes, and other supplies.Preferred:*Master's degree in Nursing.*Three years recent clinical experience, preferably in college health, urgent care, woman's health care, family practice or emergency medicine.This position requires a background check.Compliance Statement: In the performance of their functions as detailed in the position description employees have an obligation to avoid ethical, legal, financial and other conflicts of interest to ensure that their actions and outside activities do not conflict with their primary employment responsibilities at the institution.
