The Phoenix VA HCS is currently recruiting for a full-time, Assistant Nurse Manager for Outpatient Mental Health. The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is responsible for covering the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic(s) during absences of the assigned Nurse Manager.The incumbent will be coordinating day to day functioning of the Jade-Opal , PRRC, MHICM, , Suboxone and multiple outpatient Mental Health Clinics.

The ANM will collaborate with Team Leaders for adequate staffing and /or to resolve patient care issues. The ANM provides independent and collaborative patient care decisions and actively participates as a member of the Outpatient Mental Health Clinics team. The ANM collaborates with the Nurse Manager to insure accountability for prudent resource management in the delivery of safe patient care by all staff in her/his assigned area.
Assistant Nurse Manager demonstrates advanced leadership skills in developing, implementing and evaluating patient care delivery processes. As an essential member of the medical center's leadership team, the Assistant Nurse Manager participates in the development of goals and strategic plans aimed at meeting patient care needs and performance measures. The Assistant Nurse Manager sets standards for professional practice and evaluates staff ability to meet these expectations. The Assistant Nurse Manager facilitates a team approach to patient centered care and develops staff for leadership activities and mentors them to achieve success. The Assistant Nurse Manager also contributes to unit advancement and readiness by providing supplemental education and staff involvement in unit projects using lean techniques. The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for administrative duties including but not limited to reports, time schedules, certifying time, performance evaluations, meetings, etc. as delegated by the Nurse Manager of the unit. He/she may be asked to provide direct patient care as staffing needs warrant. The Assistant Nurse Manager will report directly to the Nurse Manager of the assigned unit. The incumbent will be assigned to Specialty Clinics and may be subject to reassignment within Nursing Service as patient care need is warranted.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, Days, flexible to meet both staffing and administrative needs and this may include evening, weekend, holidays and off-tour shifts. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required

In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. * Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Education & Experience: * Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) * Four (4) years mental health nursing experience. * Two (2) years recent Outpatient mental health experience. * ANCC Psychiatric Nursing Certification. * Evidence of progressive leadership activities and successful participation in Nursing or Medical Center activities/committees. * Ability to easily establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships and communication with physicians, staff, patient, and significant others. * Working knowledge of Joint Commission standards and Nursing Standards of Care for ambulatory care patients.Demonstrated ability to perform duties in accordance with VA and Joint Commission standards. * Evidence of patient teaching/education and critical thinking skills and performance. * Demonstrated ability to perform duties with initiative and independence. * Demonstrated ability to independently and collaboratively make patient care decisions. * Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. * Possess basic computer knowledge and skills with proficiency in preparing reports/documents. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: * Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. * Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. * Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. * Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. * Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree. * If a current VA employee is selected, he/she will reassign at their current grade, step and salary. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
Physical Requirements: Near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/25 or better. Ability to distinguish shades of color is not required but would be beneficial. Incumbent will sit, type, walk and talk with staff, manage databases. S/He should be able to carry 20 lbs for long distances in extreme heat on an intermittent basis. The physical requirements of this position include lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing (steps, ladder, reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive), repetitive motion and stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, keyboarding, reading and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness and hazardous materials.
