Oregon Health & Science University Licensed Practical Nurse in Portland, Oregon
OHSU Dermatology is located in the Center for Health & Healing on the South Waterfront in Portland, Oregon. The Department of Dermatology is dedicated to providing our patients the best and most innovative dermatologic care for the broad range of skin, hair, nail, and mucous membrane disorders.
The LPN provides patient care and support to patients undergoing surgical procedures in Surgical Dermatology. The surgical practice includes skin cancer excisions and reconstruction, surgical excisions of benign lesions, laser surgery and cosmetic procedures.
The LPN will obtain a health history, monitor the patient intra-operatively and post-operatively and will provide surgical assistance as needed. Other duties include patient teaching, wound care management and dressings. This position will adhere to standards of nursing practice for dermatologic surgery program and will maintain safety standards for all procedures, including lasers.
This position will function within the scope of practice as defined by the State of Oregon for LPN practice. This position performs in a manner which maintains the confidentiality and privacy of each patient, promotes positive health habits through appearance and attitude. Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and Policies and Procedures of both OHSU hospital and clinics and the Department of Dermatology; models ethical and appropriate behavior, professional standards, compliance and personal integrity.
Valid Oregon Practical Nurse License at the time of hire
BLS at time of hire
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and handle a high volume of interactions (phones, patients, etc.)
Ability to communicate clearly with proper grammar and spelling, follow oral and written instructions, and deal with diverse patient/family interactions
Ability to recognize and communicate problems promptly
Demonstrated computer proficiency with MS Office Suite and electronic medical records
High School Diploma or equivalent
Associate's Degree
Two years of ambulatory experience as LPN with experience in assisting physicians with Mohs surgery, minor surgery, and procedures
Experience with high patient volume
One year experience in Dermatology surgery setting
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and handle a high volume of interactions (phones, patients, etc.)
Microsoft Access database operation and management
Proficient with local anesthesia, electrocautery, intra-operative wound management, and post-operative wound care
Previous staff supervisor or leadership position
Oracle of Logistics ordering experience
Ability to work in an environment with exposure to human tissue, fluids, and radiation
