Shift: 8am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday. Additional hours may be necessary.

To provide patient care and teaching according to standards of care defined by the International Association for Enterostomal (Wound Care) Therapy and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, as well as assist in the development, implementation and supervision of the Enterostomal (Wound ) Care Program. The wound, ostomy and continence (WOC) nurse may provide expertise to patients for one or all, or any combination of the specialties of wound, ostomy or incontinence care. In the acute care setting, patients with WOC needs may be found across the life-span from neonatal to geriatric. Also may include additional roles of educator, leader, researcher and resource nurse as well as continued development and supervision of the WOC nursing department. The specialty of WOC nursing functions within the framework of nursing as defined by the American Nurses Association (ANA). Reference: (Wound Ostomy and Continence Nursing Society Scope and Standards of Practice; submitted to ANA Scope and Standards Committee, approved by the ANA February 2010).

Clinical Excellence - 50%

  • Participates in establishing and complies with nursing care standards, protocols, policies, and procedures of the hospital/agency

  • Delivery of care will be provided in a cost-effective manner to meet the patient’s needs. Communicates pertinent patient care information to multidisciplinary team members and the patient’s family.

  • Documents the patient’s condition and care provided according to the hospital/agency policies and procedures.

  • Makes recommendations and participates in hospital/agency activities and projects for improvement in patient care.

Patient Care - 40%

  • Uses the nursing process and team approach to consistently assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and revise the plan of care to meet the patient’s identified needs.

  • Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth and development

Basic UPH Performance Criteria - 10%

  • Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.

  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.

  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or currently attending BSN Program). Must be able to speak English fluently.

Experience:

  • 2-4 years clinical nursing experience

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • CPR certified on hire.

  • Must be licensed in state(s) in which practice is required.

  • Working knowledge of principles in ostomy care.

  • Personnel are expected to participate in appropriate continuing education as may be requested and/or required by their immediate supervisor.

  • Must attend mandatory educational programs.
