DeVry Education Group Nurse in St. Kitts, Saint Kitts and Nevis
This will be a key student/colleague focused role within the RUSVM community, supporting the integration of and promoting independence, a healthy lifestyle and college/life balance. As a healthcare provider, the incumbent will be responsible for direct nursing care to community members following established RN protocols applying evidence-based practice to develop and maintain a high-quality standard of care. The successful applicant will also be expected to promote effective working relationships and a positive ethos between students, parents/guardians, university colleagues and external agencies.
To support campus members with medical needs by utilizing sound nursing judgment to provide and direct patient care in accordance with nursing standards, established nursing protocols, and providers' orders.
To co-ordinate communication of essential medical information between students and faculty, such as medical excuses or medical emergency leave.
Assesses and evaluates patient health status which includes giving and documenting telephone advice and proper referrals as appropriate
Performs initial assessment, triage and prioritization of patients to determine urgency and order in which they are seen.
To monitor RUSVM community members seeking medical care for acute illness to include, but not limited to:
Vital signs assessment and monitoring
Wellness checks via telephone or other appropriate channels
Administration of medications as ordered (oral, IM, Sud-Q, IV, or intradermal)
Performing relevant diagnostic evaluations (blood draw, IV initiation, specimen collection and assessment)
Conducting intake history taking and examination and updating records before transferring to the physician.
Assures the use of the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in documentation of nursing care delivered to clients.
Accurately and thoroughly documents all advice in the medical record (EMR) of patient assessments (i.e. vital signs), nursing care and medications, immunizations or treatments to ensure adequate documentation.
Provides patient education, follow-up and after-care when appropriate, including pain assessment and treatment measures.
To support student transition from RUSVM to affiliate institutions by completing all relevant medical documentation and procedures and providing advise as required.
To promote confidentiality and ensure the creation and maintenance of medical and personal information in accordance with HIPPA/data protection protocols.
To promote, participate and execute wellness programs for community members in support of health promotion/prevention function (exercise and healthy eating, drug, alcohol and smoking cessation, sexual and reproductive health).
Keeping account of stock in the treatment room and restocking as necessary, as well as ensuring the physician’s office has the requisite equipment/resources needed in the execution of patient care.
To respond to emergency situations on campus or during on-call duties, to include coordination for medical evacuation.
Be required to carry out reasonable additional duties as deemed necessary by the head of department.
Qualifications and requirements:
Must hold a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, BLS and an unencumbered license with the local nursing council.
10 or more years of related experience would be preferred
Must hold a valid St. Kitts Driver's licence
Be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, public holidays and overnight on call duties.
