    License and Certification Qualifications: Registered Nurse (RN) license through the Georgia Board of Nursing and a valid Georgia driver's license required. National certification in school nursing preferred.

Education Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in nursing with a master's degree in related field or master's degree in nursing required.

Experience Qualifications: Three years of supervisory experience in public health, hospital, school health, and/or related medical facility, plus three years of pediatric experience required. Experience in the school setting preferred.

Skills Qualifications: Ability to provide specialized health related services and consultation on a direct/indirect basis; skills in training and supervision of health related procedures; ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public, students, parents, and staff; ability to act as a representative of Gwinnett County Public Schools; and ability to work successfully with colleagues.

Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating the Student Health Services Program for the school district under the direction of the Director of Health and Social Services.

  1. Supervise and provide system-wide consultation and support in the development of student health related guidelines, policies, and procedures that are consistent with applicable legislation, evidence informed practice, and community standards of care.

  2. Supervise and serve as a resource for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation activities performed by county school nurses.

  3. Provide consultation and technical assistance to county school nurses, local school staff, other departments, and school system administration on health issues which impact the educational process.

  4. Supervise the planning and implementation of training and staff development provided by county school nurses to local school clinic workers and other staff, as designated by the principal or supervisor, and commensurate with their responsibilities and job descriptions.

  5. Provide training and technical support as requested to other departments including, but not limited to, Special Education and Psychological Services,Transportation, and School Nutrition Program to ensure a continuum of care in all school settings.

  6. Act as the primary liaison between the school system and the Georgia Department of Public Health and other community health agencies.

  7. Support and assist the district, county nurses and local schools in a coordinated response in the event of a communicable disease investigation/outbreak.

  8. Provide administrative oversight related to health requirements and required screenings.

a. Provide administrative oversight for immunization compliance.

b. Provide administrative oversight for scoliosis screenings.

  1. Provide administrative oversight for the GCPS Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Program.

  2. Perform essential job duties of the School Nurse position for assigned schools or as needed in the absence of the assigned county school nurse.

  3. Collect and interpret data regarding the Student Health Services Program.

  4. Assist with new projects as assigned.

  5. Perform other duties as assigned.
