Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

This is a supervisory nursing position in the School Health Program . The primary duty of the employee in this position is to communicate with, motivate, train, and evaluate employees; planning and directing their work; and, having the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or to effectively recommend such actions. Supervision is provided by the Assistant Community Health Nursing Director.

Plans, motivates, trains, evaluates and supervises work of assigned staff in the School Readiness, School Health, and Volunteer School Health programs. Assures completion of interagency referrals, outreach, case management, and field visits according to agency policies and procedures. Coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the system of service delivery to assure optimal use of time, staff, and resources. Communicates on a regular basis with assigned staff both individually and in staff meetings. Assists with developing and revising nursing procedures, conducting surveys, studies and reports. Participates in planning and promoting a specialized program of public health nursing. Develops policies and procedures for programs that adhere to agency and unit guidelines. Monitors and evaluates assigned staff adherence to programs, policies and procedures. Directs the nursing activities of the school health branch of the public health Department. Works collaboratively with the School District on the School Health Plan. Works on the Children’s Services Council (CSC) quarterly report and submits the CSC grant annually.

Applies for grants that will promote the school health plan and agency objectives, functions in a lead role during disaster response, Chairs the Adolescent and Child Health Network through the Roundtable, provides presentations throughout the year to various audiences to promote the School Health Program, 5210, and the Roundtable objectives. Communicates with supervisor on a regular basis on program activities, statistics, workload, staff, and service delivery issues. Works collaboratively with the Epidemiology department to mitigate disease outbreaks in the school setting. Communicates as needed with Health Department attorney. Participates on internal workgroups as assigned.

Chairs the Food Policy Council within Healthy St Lucie.

Performs related duties as required. Functions as delegated authority for supervisor as assigned.
